LocalShare · last updated September 2026
LocalShare does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or to anyone else. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
Your files stay on your network
LocalShare moves files between your devices over your own local network. When you send a file from your phone, it travels directly from the phone's browser to the LocalShare app on your Mac and is saved only in the folder you chose. Files you share from the Mac go directly to your devices the same way. Nothing passes through the internet or through our servers — we don't have any.
Only devices on the same local network can connect, and only while a session is open on your Mac. Every new device has to be approved on the Mac before it can send or download anything.
What is stored on your Mac
Your settings, the devices you chose to remember and the list of recently received files are kept on your Mac only. If you turn on encryption (HTTPS), the certificate LocalShare creates is kept in your Mac's keychain. Received files are yours: they are saved where you choose and LocalShare never reads files you have not received or shared.
Your phone
Nothing is installed on your phone. The page it opens is served by your Mac and remembers only a random identifier, so your Mac can recognise it next time. You can clear it at any time from the browser's settings.
Purchases and licensing
Mac App Store version: bought through Apple, which processes the payment; we never see your name, email or payment details. It needs no license and makes no connection to the internet. See Apple's privacy policy.
Direct download version: licenses are sold by our reseller (Merchant of Record), Lemon Squeezy, whose privacy policy governs your payment data. To activate and periodically confirm a license, the app sends your license key and a device label (your Mac's name) to Lemon Squeezy over an encrypted connection, so the same key can be limited to three Macs. That is the only connection it makes outside your local network, and your files are never part of it.
