LocalShare
LocalShare moves photos, videos and any other file between your phone and your Mac over your Wi-Fi — nothing to install on the phone, no cables, no cloud. Need a hand? Email hola@jmkr.es and we'll get back to you.
Sending files to the Mac
Open LocalShare on the Mac and scan the QR code with your phone's camera
(or type the link shown under it into the phone's browser). The first time,
click Allow on the Mac. Then tap
Choose Photos & Videos or Choose Files
on the phone. Files arrive in Downloads/LocalShare unless you
pick another folder.
Sending files to the phone
Drop files on the LocalShare window (or use File › Share Files…). They appear under From Mac on every connected device, ready to download one by one or all together.
Activating the direct download
The version downloaded from jmkr.es needs a license (the Mac App Store version doesn't — it's ready once installed). Buy one from the activation screen, then paste the key from your receipt email and click Activate. A license works on up to three Macs; to move it, open Settings › License › Deactivate This Mac on the old one.
Lost your key? Lemon Squeezy emailed it to you at purchase; you can also find it, and see or free up activated Macs, in the Lemon Squeezy customer portal — log in with the email you used at checkout.
The phone can't connect
- Same network: the phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the Mac, not on mobile data. Guest networks and some office or hotel networks keep devices apart; use another network or a personal hotspot.
- Firewall: if the macOS firewall is on, allow LocalShare to accept incoming connections (System Settings › Network › Firewall › Options).
- Local network access: make sure LocalShare is allowed in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
- VPN: a VPN on the phone or the Mac can route traffic away from your network; pause it while transferring.
Help › Device Can't Connect? in the app shows your Mac's address and can test the connection for you.
Common questions
- Is the quality reduced? No. Files arrive byte for byte as they left the phone, with their original names and dates. (On iPhone, the Photos picker can convert photos to JPEG depending on its options; choosing from Files always keeps the original.)
- What about very large videos? They are sent in chunks. If the Wi-Fi drops or the screen locks, the transfer continues where it stopped.
- Is it private? Yes. Files never leave your network, and every new device has to be approved on the Mac. Turn on Encrypt transfers (HTTPS) in Settings for shared networks.
- Does it work with Android, iPad or another computer? Yes — any device with a modern browser.
- Refunds? Mac App Store purchases follow Apple's standard refund process (reportaproblem.apple.com). For direct purchases, email us and we'll sort it out.
